Broadcasting

Broadcast is a highly specialized segment within the point to point microwave market. Broadcasting radios are deployed for live feeds and in mobile broadcast situations such as news gathering, sports events, video surveillance etc. It defines also the physical design of a radio – radios are rugged, portable and they typically provide the ability to transmit in native broadcast formats along with a number of other integrated features not normally found in PTP radios.

With migration to high definition and digital TV, the requirements for additional capacity and new generation has driven the demand. However, for the time being the bottleneck is not anything similar to mobile backhaul, where aggregated data requirements foresee 1-3 Gbps backbone capacity, and scaling up to 10 Gbps. Typical MPEG-4 compressed signal requires 5-10 Mbps over digital HTDV channel.

The demand will be sustained in developing economies, where digital and high definition is still to be deployed. These regions are Latin America, parts of the Asia Pacific and Africa.

Key benefits

Modesat provides IPs for TDM and Ethernet radios, which provide:

  • Flexilibty to design mobile radios which switch automatically from one cell to another
  • Can introduce multiple path of HD transmissions due to high capacity
  • Low latency supporting real time applications
  • Upgradability of modems for new generation of radios
