Corporate networks

Gas and electricity companies, national park authorities, university campuses, military bases, public safety organizations etc may all benefit from point to point radio links, which supply data and monitoring traffic between different localities, where cableing is not available and satellite communications too expensive and limited capacity.

For enterprise market, unlicensed 2.4 GHz and 5-6GHz (mainly 5.8 GHz) products remain the leading sellers in this segment. Higher frequency unlicensed or lightly licensed products in the 24 GHz, 60 GHz, and 80 GHz bands are expected to make some gains over the next 5 years as capacity requirements migrate upwards and as these solutions gain greater visibility.

Typically, corporate networks are organized to support communication between central hub and remote hubs, or between individual hubs where a roll out of full fiber based network or satellite communications is commercially not viable. Trenching costs reach $30 per meter in remote areas, and go up as high as $130 for urban areas. On top of that, acquisition of trenching rights as well as time required for network installations introduce additional significant delays. However, compared to satellite links, organization of a network with few radio bridges is more viable cost-wise and capacity-wise.
